    Some sorrows, some joys

The 2nd round of axing on Thursday left many more people in tears. Some of the people who left are not just colleagues but also friends. Known and worked with them since I joined the company or sometime in between.

Everyone is feeling down (except some insensitive people) and in no mood to work. The office seems to be more quiet these days and colder. =(

Hope that those affected will feel better soon and get a new, better job. Gonna miss them.

Been busy doing the designs for our invitation cards and finally its done. Now what left is the printing part and sending out. I have no idea how many web pages, clip arts etc I have gone through to get it done. Phew... Its gonna be the same theme colour like the organza, haha, I know its very "me". But I think its a romantic colour~

2 mths, 4wks & 2 days to our ROM! I am feeling excited and nervous! I have been rather emotional lately as in I seem to cry easily these days. Colleagues leaving, touching/romantic scenes in movies, when I think of us finally tying the knot 2 days after our 7th yr anni etc.

Btw, we went to see "Confessions of a Shopaholic"! Its really great! Funny, romantic at times and lots of shopping! Keke, I told Hubby "See, at least I never shop like that ok!". Funny thing is I noticed I been shopping less after we got our flat and not really missing it. Of cos there are times when I am really tempted to buy something, but I tell myself - Not now, wait till the ROM is over! But... I really, really do need (not want) a new pair of flats cos my current pair is worn out. So, Charles & Keith, here I come!

    The axe has been waved

The dreaded "R" word in the office. Though our team is not affected becos we are such a small team, but I do really feel for those affected. Especially when one of them is not just a colleague, but someone who is a friend and lunch kaki.

We were feeling upset for him and really hope he'll be alright. Its the first time something like this happened in my close to 6 yrs of working life and other than words of concern, I didn't know what else I could do or say.

I know for sure that we'll miss this friend but also I know he'll probably find somewhere/something better. Do take care, dear friend~

Though there were "green" people being axed, but I felt more "blue" people have been affected. Sooner or later, its gonna be the "green" world and they'll probably find ways to get rid of the "blue" people. (I belong to the "blue" side btw, pure blue, not the "new blue".)

On a lighter note, someone will be leaving on his own accord. Though I see more responsibilities/work falling on me after that, but I suppose our team will be more relieved in certain ways. Just hope there will be no outstanding issues for me to clear after that. =p I am seriously very sick of clearing people's shit time after time in this place. The period where people came and go was super annoying and stressful for me.

We met up with Derrick earlier on at Century Square to discuss the details. We have confirmed that we will engaging his service for our ROM photography! He's a young guy, probably around our age (quite cute also, oops... =x) and friendly. At least I felt comfy chatting with him, I left the technical stuff to Hubby and I couldn't understand what they were talking about.

We're waiting for him to show more pics he took for a recent solemnisation when he's done with the processing. Hope everything goes well on that day bah.

So at last 1 more thing striked off the list - BS booked, venue booked, now photographer booked.

What left is finding a JP, doing the invitation cards and the well-wishes board (we're gonna DIY), trying of the gowns for me and the most impt thing - our wedding bands!

The wedding bands are likely to be last since we likely want just something simple and not burn a hole in the pocket. Hubby has the strong belief that its not the value of the rings that matter, but the love that bond us together. So we'll probably start looking in May for the rings.

Before I forget, 26/Mar ==> 81st Mth Anni! Happy 81 months together, my dearest Hubby. *muacks* 3mths 2 days more before we become husband and wife~ *blush*

ROM Photographer - Derrick Than Photography

Yes, we have decided to book Derrick Than for our ROM photography. It was tough deciding between him and 2Lives1Path (Linus Siaw), but the price was more attractive.

There was actually a promotion of 10% off packages if you book before March. But when we chanced upon him, it was already almost mid-Mar. Thus, I was a little thick-skinned and tried my luck and... ta-dah~ We can get the 10% discount! Keke, see I got help Hubby save money!

Have sent him an email to inform him that we are engaging his service and setting up a date/time to meet up. Likely to be next week and after that at least we have one less thing to stress/think about liao!

Next down the list is Gallery Hotel contract which we haven't signed and returned. Turns out that we might have a bit more people than what we planned (eg. the neighbour who expects that we invite her, her daughter & son-in-law becos she gave Mummy a bowl of vinegar pig-trotters). I am trying to think how I can tell my mum that I do not plan to invite them without offending her. I seriously don't know them at well and can't even recognise them if I see them (except the son-in-law who's not bad looking lah, oops... =x). If I invite them as well, I will be obligated to invite my mum's best friend, my father etc. Wah lau, like that I will have 5 tables liao leh and very over budget.

Sigh, shall see what I can do bah and maybe nego with Gallery Hotel again if they can bring the price further since we have more guests or at least give us a nett price. You know how those "++" can add up quite a bit.

Btw, I played Wii Fit today for 42mins! Haha, so proud of myself~ Got sweat and feel tired one loh! According to the body test, I lost 0.2lbs! Ermm, which is like 90grams? Aiyah, better than nothing lah, its just a start mah. Tmr we shall have healthy veggie steamboat for lunch and more Wii, haha~

    Photographer Search & Mini Updates

We have shortlisted 3 photographers based on the photos on their websites, price and what the package comprised of. $250/hr and min. of 3hours are a big no-no for us.

What we're looking at are 3-4 hours (the ROM event is 3hrs) of photography at less than $400 if possible. Its a real low and tight budget but better than burning a hole in our pocket. Still considering if we should ask the photographer to take photos of me getting ready (make-up, hairstyling etc) as that will probably mean we need 4hrs of photography in all.

I know people have been telling us to keep it simple etc but the ROM means a lot to us, as much as our banquet which will come in another year or two. The people whom we are inviting will also be those whom we really want to share our joy with and play a part in our life.

Of cos we're not the only couple who have been dating for years but it has not been an easy journey for us both. Its definitely not like what a galfren said "Ur went thru a lot meh? Only ur mum is the obstacle wat." Yeah, its easy for her to say that becos she doesn't have pressure of being the only one who's working and earning many more times than me.

I realised that despite I felt upset a few times (you know how guys can sometimes be super laid back abt stuff and me being gan chiong spider), I could feel the bond and love growing stronger slightly more everyday. This is the man whom I'm gonna be legally married to in 3 mths time, the man whom I'm gonna finally settle down with after 7yrs (our 7th yr anni is on 26/Jun btw) and the man whom I'm gonna spend the rest of my life with happily ever after.

Err, I'm digressing liao. =x Anyway, I finally managed to eat at Zeng Fu Cai with Bixin, Michelle and Hubby on Wednesday! Had some ice-cream from Tom Palette also, fat fat fat!!

Called up Helen/GHA during lunch to inform her that we have booked our venue and the date is 28/Jun. She will be fixing an appointment for me next mth to try on the gowns! Feeling so excited, keke. Meanwhile, I need to lose a lot of weight. Anyone wanna get some fats from me? =p Hope I can get to try some nice gowns that I can fit into and hide my flaws, lol.

    Gallery Hotel

We have booked our solemnization package with Gallery Hotel. It has exceed our budget slightly but among all the other hotels, its considered one of the more affordable ones. I read in Singapore Brides forum that the food from Zenden Restaurant is quite good as well.

We were shown the function room - Marley and its a small, cosy room. The buffet will be just outside the room and were shown photos of the set-up. Previously via email, the photos shown has gold (looks more orange to me though) organza tied around the chairs which I didn't really fancy. So I asked Huihui (the F&B Exec who attended to us) if there were other colours and she said there were pink, purple and one other colour which I can't recall. Of cos I chose purple! Hehe... We asked a few questions which we were concerned about and decided everything sounds ok and placed the deposit.

So venue settled! Now just gotta settle the guest list, get some help from friends on that day for the recep table, confirm menu which can be done 2 weeks before the actual date (its 28/Jun' 09 btw) and the table set-up style.

Here are some photos of the hotel.

We had lunch at Liang Court after that and the steamboat's soup base were super nice loh! We had fish soup and tomato soup as the soup bases. The tomato soup is so unique and the taste of both soups were not that strong till it covered the taste of the food. The lunch buffet is from 12-3pm and costs $23.80++ per pax, the soup is additional $8.80 and the total bill was abt $66 for both of us.

    Updates of the week

We have decided on the venue and will be going to the hotel this Sat to discuss further details. To be honest, we prefer the hi-tea menu than the lunch menu which looks more appetising and the costs are more attractive also.

We're not really prepared to fork out that much extra for the lunch menu especially when the food doesn't seem appealing. Moreover, we're already over our budget by booking there. But I suppose friends and relatives will understand (hope so). =)

I woke up this morning and to my horror, my ankle was very much swollen compared to the past week. It was so bad that if you press down firmly on the swollen part, the dent will remain there for a while. I kindda panicked and freaked out, asking colleagues if I should go "tui na". Decided that I better go see the doc physician before it becomes worse.

After work, I went home first and waited for Hubby to come accompany to see the doc. The lady doc was a China lady (quite fierce and rich from the looks of it) and she said it was really swollen and she dare not tui na for me. She said to use acupunture first to reduce the swelling.

Boo hoo, I was so afraid. Needles leh, being poked into flesh, so scary!!! It hurt though not a lot and I saw both ankles with a lot of needles sticking out, sob sob... I lied down for like 30 mins with the needles on and when the needles were removed, there was slight bleeding. She said it was good there was bleeding because that's clotted blood.

The swelling did subside a bit and ankles were not that painful when moving up and down stairs. I was given some medicine to take as well and told to sleep with socks on, avoid aircon/fan to blow directly on my feet and to elevate my legs when I sleep so that the blood will not all flow to the ankles.

Have taken my medicine and have my socks on, hope it'll become better soon bah. Not a good timing to have swollen and painful ankles like that when I have errands to run for ROM.

So much things, so little time & kaching

I feel that we have not really confirmed or done anything for our ROM and its only 3mths away!

We have got quotes from many venues, a few quotes from photographers but that's about it. Here's a list of what we need to do and still not done.

    1. Confirm and book venue. - Both of us have a different venue in mind and ironically, the reason we both like about the place of our choice is the environment. I know his choice will cost us much lesser but I really do not fancy the so-called scenery and I feel like I'm at a public swimming pool becos of the crowd, nvm that its a members' only place. He likes the stairway but I hate it becos I hate climbing stairs.

    2. Photographer - Still looking around and looking for reasonable (read: cheap) packages but good results.

    3. ROM dress - Have yet to go and try any or call to make appt to try becos venue not settled yet.

    4. Booking of ROM date on website and looking for JP - Have to settle by end Mar - beginning Apr.

    5. Wedding bands - Still can wait till Apr or May I suppose.

    6. Minor reno & furnishing of new home - That can really wait till maybe until after ROM cos we're not in a hurry to move in.

Sigh, its exciting to be looking for these info but sometimes I feel sick and tired. I know he's busy and he has loads of work, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only one concerned. =(

Maybe its just my nature to be gan chiong and make sure everything is planned ahead and in place cos I hate last min plans/changes. I would prefer to settle everything and just spend the next few mths waiting for the day to come.

Good luck to me bah. Hope there's gonna be bonus or somehow a big sum of money will drop from the sky (GST credits not counted cos the amt is miserable).
